You're not a fan

Everyone right now is so hyped for both Sonic Mania and Forces and can't contain their excitement for both titles ... is something that I would like to say, but if you've seen the Sonic fanbase you can clearly tell that's never the case. A good number of fans who have already decided they hate these two games are claiming how they want both titles to fail just to teach Sega a lesson ... like really? and then after saying that they somehow have the balls to claim that they are Sonic fans? I've seen those who call others fake Sonic fans if they're only in it for the Archie comics or want Sonic to be like Mario, but I rarely see people who want the modern Sonic games to fail get called out for being fake Sonic fans. A real Sonic fan would never wish an upcoming game would fail or hope it gets canceled just because it doesn't look good to them, it's without a doubt one of the most selfish things a fan of pretty much anything could say. Now let me make this clear, I'm not saying being disinterested in upcoming Sonic games makes you a non fan cause you can boycott them all you want, it's your loss if they turn out to be amazing. I'm just saying that if you feel the need to make a petition to get them canceled, then you really need to question yourself if you actually like Sonic. For example I enjoy a lot of DC properties like Batman, Superman, The Flash, ect. However I really haven't been enjoying the DCEU since Man of Steel was meh and BvS and Suicide Squad are some of the worst comic book movies I've ever seen, therefore I don't really want to see any of the upcoming films in the series aside from maybe The Batman so long as Zack Snyder has 0 involvement in it. Now does this mean I hope every DC movie bombs at the box office? No not really, I could honestly care less how they perform, if they get good reviews and are financially sucessful then well good for them I guess. My point is you don't have to like every single thing in the series to really be a fan. But if you're hoping a game fails because you don't think you'll like it, then don't even try to convince me you really are a Sonic fan. Also for all those Adventure fanboys out there who are afraid that if Mania and Forces are sucessful then it'll further prevent Sega from making SA3, the series is in a rather critical state incase you somehow haven't notice. So if both games fail then there definitely won't be an SA3 because the series will most likely be dead. If you genuinely do care about Sonic then you better hope both these games are massive successes regardless of your honest feelings towards them, cause if they fail then you can kiss your favorite series goodbye.
Update: I don't usually go back and update my deviants unless it's just to fix a spelling error, but something occured to me that I feel is important to this situation. "What if you're not necessarily wishing the games bomb, but are simply expecting them to bomb?" Well I would say it depends on what your reasoning is. If you're expecting a game to flop because of personal problems that will only affect you and you alone, then it's still pretty selfish. However if your problems are actually legitimate and could affect other peoples experience besides yourself, then I supose it's something you could be cautious about.
